Copy Director

We’re looking for a Copy Director to join the Out & About team! This person will deeply understand the nuances of content in the RIA and financial services spaces — including compliance, industry jargon, and the details that matter. Ideally, they’re well-connected in the industry and a true word nerd who loves crafting clear, accurate, and engaging content.

This is a part-time role, ranging from 10 to 15 hours per week.

  • Setting and upholding brand personality, voice, and tone excellence are paramount to your day-to-day. You understand the value of branding and positioning in the marketplace. As such, you work to ensure each touchpoint upholds the company's brand essence. 
  • You are passionate about building relationships with clients and giving presentations. You treat their work as if it were your own. 
  • Helping to lead, coach, mentor, and support your team gives you joy. You love when the copy team is on its a-game and when you’re able to help support and train team members who have copy related questions.
  • You love teaching and communicating to make the end product stronger. You aren’t afraid to explain the why to clients—or present files and provide the research behind what was done. You speak up and push back to make the end product stronger.
  • Setting content expectations and ensuring the copy team is set up for success is your thing. You love analyzing wireframes, seeing the big-picture strategy, and reviewing copy to ensure top quality. 
  • You own and oversee content calendars, content ideation, publishing dates, and content cadences.
  • You understand what will work and won’t work on a digital platform. You know how to speak in technical language to the copy team. 
  • You love to collaborate and partner with other team members.
  • You believe in wowing clients. It excites you to see their eyes light up, helping them feel heard and making it easy for them to give feedback and be engaged in the process. At your core, you believe creative work should evoke emotion through the written word but also through the presentation of the design. 
  • Ensuring projects are brand-aligned and the workflow for strategic projects is delegated clearly and airtight is critical to your success, the client’s success, and the team’s overall success.
  • You plan and think 10 steps ahead. Missing a deadline isn’t an option. You think of and see challenges before others do.
  • You love working with a marketing team that is truly passionate about its work. You trust your team. You know team members hold themselves accountable to the highest standard, just as you do.

EDUCATIONAL
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in marketing, communications, writing, or journalism fields
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with copy from development to execution

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High attention to detail when making edits and reviewing documents
  • Extensive knowledge of financial services jargon, with a focus on RIA firms and asset managers.
  • Experience holding brands compliant across digital, content, and visual platforms
  • Knowledge about UX/UI principles in the digital space and design world
  • Knowledgeable about SEO best practices for content writing, content writing, on-page technical writing, and website structure.
  • Experience working with the C-suite, senior leadership, and a copy team
  • Self-starter who has excellent judgment and an efficient work ethic
  • Fluency in Google Docs and project management tools required; Asana experience a plus
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse clients
